I've been jogging to and from work since February of last year, first as an excuse not to have to take the bus, then because I actually enjoyed it (normally hate 'jogging'). The positive was that I got pretty lean, dropping close to 9kg over a few months.
The negative was that, going from basically no running to 15 km/day did a number on my shins, especially since the shoes I was running weren't really designed for the task.
After a few weeks of 'dealing' with the pain during runs, it got too much and I found I couldn't do other activities (tennis, squash) and felt like an old arthritic man.
I got really worried about this, read online articles, went for gait analysis, and received treatment from Alex Evans, an Osteopath who recommended some time off, stretches, and new shoes.
After a long search, Leanne took me to her local running shoe store, Forerunners on 4th - the guys there were very helpful, and in the end I walked out with a pair of 'Sir Issac's by Newton Running, a new shoe company with some crazy ideas on forefoot cushioning.
I've had them now for at least a month have felt no pain. I think it might be because I learned how to run better (haha).

Maybe I'm a natural, but that's how I always ran, and not landing on my heels as he says is the norm.
